Double-Crested Cormorant

Phalacrocorax brasilianus

  • 1
This bird has a long history on the planet, from the order of Pelecaniformes, large aquatic birds highly adapted for swimming, very ancient order dating back 20 million years.
It fishes and has been used as a fishing tool by man. Tied to a string it is sent underwater by the fisherman to catch prey then is reeled in and made to regurgitate the catch. Its neck is restricted with a band buy its user to keep the prey from being entirely swallowed.
my friend here has always been a free bird and has no band.

Hea squirrels can be fun.

I really like looking at this bird's feet.

:-) foot fetish?
They swim under water for 5 to 10 mins. chasing fish.

A formal black-tie portrait?

ancient Hebrew law and old testament say this bird is not to be eaten or if it falls dead on the ground you shouldn't eat crops grown on that ground....I wouldn't make that up.
nasty bird but looks cool.

Beautiful portrait as usual... Love the detail.:)
(Love cormorants too, for that matter!)

another lucky shot. I've noticed the bad weather shots are usually exceptional light conditions.and Bad weather seems to bring out the animals

i just realized you added me..

i love you?

Hea Becky
I see your a bird fan also
Be warned I'm an old man :-0
